At some point, most of you will need to duplicate a page or post on your WordPress site for different reasons.

For example, you might want to make some changes to one of your already published pages, but you want to see how those changes will look like first.

One of the methods that allows you to do that is to duplicate the page, make the changes, and then preview them.

In this post, I’ll show you how to duplicate a WordPress page or post with the use of 3 different plugins.

1. Duplicate Post plugin

Active installs: 2+ million

This Duplicate Post plugin allows to clone a page/post or edit it as a new draft. After you install it, two links will appear under your posts and pages: “Clone” and “New Draft”.

  1. New draft: This will send you directly to the editing area, so you can quickly modify what you want; it basically speeds up things a little bit.
  2. Clone: This just duplicates the page or post and adds it to the list, without sending you to the editing area. This is useful if you have several posts or pages that you want to duplicate.

Once you press “Clone”, the cloned page/post will be a draft. Some duplication plugins clone them as published, which is not that good.

This plugin also comes with several interesting and useful settings (found in Settings > Duplicate Post), which allows you to choose what to copy:

  • Copy post/page date;
  • Copy post/page status;
  • Copy excerpt;
  • Copy attachments;
  • Copy children.

In this screenshot, you can see all of its settings:

I forgot to mention that this plugin also supports custom post types.

2. Post Duplicator plugin

Active installs: 100,000+

Post Duplicator is a more simple plugin, with fewer settings, but it gets the job done nevertheless.

This plugin allows you to make an exact duplicate of the post or page.

It supports custom post types, custom taxonomies, and custom fields.

After you install the plugin, a “Duplicate Post”/”Duplicate Page” button will appear if you hover your mouse over a post/page.

Once you press the duplicate button, you’ll get an exact clone of that page or post (it won’t copy the comments, though).

The clone will be a draft unless you select something else in the settings, which are found in Tools > Post Duplicator. Here they are:

3. Duplicate Page and Post plugin

Duplicate Page and Post is another WordPress plugin that creates a clone of your posts, custom post types, and pages with a simple click.

You just need to install it and then start duplicating by hovering your mouse over a post/page and then clicking on “Duplicate”.

The clone will be a Draft.

If you go to Settings > Duplicate post, you can also add a suffix to your clone, which will show after the title.

Conclusion

Now you know how to duplicate a WordPress page or post on your website, without any hassle!

Note that, while this can come in handy, it can also cause trouble, especially when it comes to SEO. If your duplicate posts or pages are published (without having largely modified content), not drafts, then you can run into duplicate content issues.
